Savannah- Mary Dressel Sullivan, 89, died Thursday, March 3, 2011 at Hospice House.
She was born in Savannah May 22, 1921 to Jane Pirkle and Philip Arndt Dressel. Mary graduated from Savannah High School in 1940 and Winthrop College four years later. She married John J. Sullivan in 1945 and they had two children, Mary Jane and Caroline. Mary taught business subjects at Savannah High, 1953-1981.
Mary's husband died in 2005. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her daughter, Mary Jane Sheldahl and brother, Jack Dressel.
Survivors include her daughter, Caroline Bontempo Ken, and son-in-law, Terry Sheldahl of Savannah; grandchildren, Blake Hawley Keith of Marietta, GA, Christopher Sheldahl Angela Giddings of Chapel Hill, NC, and Theresa Bontempo of Savannah; great-grandchildren, Rachel Hawley and Alexander Sheldahl; niece and nephew Loretto Dressel Lominack and Jackie Dressel of Savannah.
Visitation: 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, March 6, 2011 with a Rosary Service at 3:00 p.m. at the Islands Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors.
Graveside Service: 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 7, 2011 at the Catholic Cemetery.
